My Thoughts on Wolverine 3

March 3rd 2017 we will see Hugh Jackman pop his claws for the last time. There have many rumors about the third wolverine movie. Some say it will be Old Man Logan a popular story by comic writer Mark Millar, recently the post credit scene at the end of X-Men Apocalypse indicates we could be seeing a fan favorite character make her big screen debut. The first Wolverine movie, X-Men Origins Wolverine is known for being one of the worse comic book movies to date. The X-Men movie, Days of Future Past saw Wolverine Origins wiped out of the movie continuity. The next stand alone Wolverine movie, titled The Wolverine is a solid movie overall that found Wolverine in Japan to assist a dying friend. I really enjoyed this film…….Until the last 15 minutes of it. An unfortunate end to a really good movie, not sure where we are gonna find Logan at the beginning of Wolverine 3 but here’s my hopes for the film.

Spoilers ahead for some of the X-Men movie universe. Wolverine made his debut in the original X-Men movie as a cage fighter with no memory of his past. In the next few movies we find out that Logan, Wolverines name, has been alive for over a hundred years and he has fought in the 2 World Wars. He is a Mutant with the ability to heal rapidly and he has bone claws that pop out of his fist. He was captured by a secret military program that covered his bones with an unbreakable metal called Adamantium. His ability to heal is the only reason why he survived the procedure. The process was so painful it destroyed his mind leaving him in a feral state, which is where we find him in X-Men Apocalypse. In that scene we see Jean Grey repaired a portion of his mind and let him escape. During the end credit scene in X-Men Apocalypse we saw a group of men in suits go to the facility where Wolverine was being held and take a vial of his blood. The case was labeled Essex corp which is run by Nathaniel Essex also know as Mister Sinister. Sinister is a X-Men villain known for capturing and experimenting on Mutants.

This along with some rumors lead me to believe we will see mister Sinister attempt to clone Wolverine. This leads to the creation of X-23 and Daken, in the comics X-23 is a female clone of Wolverine. She has two claws that come out of her fist instead of 3 and she also has a claw that comes out of her foot. She is a trained killer and has Logan’s healing factor. Daken is Wolverines son in the comics but I can see them making him a clone in the movies to simplify the story. Daken has Wolverine’s healing factor and also has 3 claws but unlike Wolverine one of Daken’s claws comes out of his wrist and 2 out of his fist.

Casting wise I would love to she Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black as X-23, and Boyd Holbrook who has already been added to the cast but they have not announced who he will be playing as Daken. I can see an older Logan finding out about X-23 saving her and helping her for the first half of the movie then having to team up to take down Daken as the Evil Wolverine in the second half of the movie.

Like I pointed out earlier Hugh Jackman has announced this will be his final go at Wolverine. One of my theories is the obvious, Wolverine dies at the end and X-23 takes over the mantle of Wolverine and the movies continue from there. My other thought is we see a new Wolverine and the films continue on Bond style. If they go that route there has been a lot of names tossed out there to replace Jackman. Tom Hardy is a popular choice Colin Farrell is another. I personally would try to cast Logan Marshall-Green. He looks the part and is at an age that he can continue to do so for a while.

Tom Hardy
Scott Eastwood
Joe Manganiello

  1. It’s going to be so sad to see Hugh Jackman go but I’m beyond excited for this one. I’m hoping it’ll be epic. As for your fan cast, I’m kinda digging Logan Marshall-Green as an option. He’s definitely got the looks for it. Great article, are you currently sharing your work on any other movie/tv platforms?
